Usain Bolt test Carrera Cup Australia race car
Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt recently sampled a 2014-spec Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car while in Australia last week as part of his ties with newly formed Carrera Cup Australia race team, 23Red Racing.
The test came about by Bolt?s friendship with Australian Olympic sprinter John Steffensen, who himself confirmed his entry into the 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia season after a year in the 2017 GT3 Cup Challenge Australia series.
The retired Jamaican sprinter completed the private test at Winton Motor Raceway on Monday November 20 in the 911 GT3 Cup car that Cam McConville campaigned in the 2017 Carrera Cup Australia series. Due to the privacy of the test, there is limited imagery and vision of the event.
Bolt was due to attend the launch of 23Red Racing, though could not attend due to illness.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB: 2017 Junior Shootout
The final stage of the 2018/19 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior selection process took place at Silverstone on Tuesday 31 October and Wednesday 1 November, when five finalists were put through a challenging assessment programme over a gruelling 24 hours.
The talented quintet was selected following interviews which took place at the beginning of October. 12 contenders were invited to interview at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone from a record 40 international applicants, but in addition to quantity, the quality was also at a record high.
The focus of the assessment was a programme of timed laps in two second-generation ?Type 991? Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars around the Silverstone National circuit, all the while under the expert eyes of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB technical team. In order to determine potential as well as current ability, under scrutiny was more than just lap times. A core component of the test comprises data analysis, feedback and interaction with the engineers.
In addition, the five finalists took on a several high-intensity fitness evaluation tests with the experts at Porsche Human Performance and participated in a media workshop, all at the Porsche Experience Centre. The results from across every aspect assisted in finding the next Junior for the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the UK.
The programme, formerly known as the Scholarship, now aligns in name as well as purpose with the career development opportunities provided internationally by Porsche for young drivers. Former Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Josh Webster (2014/15) and outgoing Scholar Charlie Eastwood (2016/17) both excelled during their time with the championship, each becoming champion. Both were on hand to offer expert opinion and guidance throughout the selection process.
Jamie Caroline (18), a three-time British karting champion, arrived as British F4 champion. George Gamble (21), a former Ginetta champion, completed the 2017 Ginetta GT4 Supercup season in third. Daniel Harper (16) combined karting and quadbike titles with rallying to place second in the 2017 Ginetta Junior championship. Esmee Hawkey (19) most recently took the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport to multiple victories in GT Cup. At just 16 years old, in 2017 Dean Macdonald moved to British GT4 as a multiple karting champion.
The finalists faced an anxious wait until the Porsche Carrera Cup GB end-of-season awards on 11 November when the 2018/19 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Junior was announced.

New Porsche GB Junior headlines Porsche Carrera Cup GB 2018
Dan Harper (16) was been announced as the Porsche GB 2018/19 Junior at the Porsche Carrera Cup GB ?Night of Motorsport? end of season awards. Following on from fellow Northern Irishman Charlie Eastwood, Harper joins an elite roll of honour that includes two champions - Josh Webster (Junior 2014/15) and Charlie Eastwood (Junior 2016/17).
A versatile driver who has already demonstrated his skills with great success on quad bikes, in karts, rallying, rallycross and circuit racing, Harper overcame incredibly tough competition from four other highly talented drivers at just 16 years of age. His first official appearance as the Porsche GB 2018 / 19 Junior will be at the Autosport International Show in January.
Despite the level of anticipation surrounding the announcement of the new Porsche GB Junior, celebrating the end of a successful season and looking ahead to 2018 was the theme of the ?Night of Motorsport?. Over 150 members of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB family, past, present and future, gathered at the home of a very different type of horsepower, Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire. A nearby hotel with shuttle service was arranged to allow guests travelling from around the country to recognise the champions and stand-out performances of the season.
WEC star, Le Mans winner and Carrera Cup graduate Nick Tandy attended, while two of the raceday presenters from national TV station ITV hosted the evening. The top three drivers in the four categories all received their awards, before the new Junior was announced and the annual charity raffle was held.
A notable highlight was the ?Sacred Driver of the Year' award which went to Dino Zamparelli after his fight back to equal eventual champion Charlie Eastwood on points, but there were other special awards to be collected. Four Superfast Chronograph timepieces, presented by Chopard, were fittingly awarded to the driver in each category ? Pro, Pro-Am1, Pro-Am2 and Rookie ? who achieved the highest number of fastest laps throughout the 15 race season. Dan Cammish, Alex Martin, Peter Kyle-Henney and Tio Ellinas were the deserving recipients for 2017.
For Charlie Eastwood, Alex Martin and Shamus Jennings, the most obvious spoils of winning the Pro, Pro-Am1 and Pro-Am2 categories respectively were outside next to the red carpet. All three drove away brand new Porsche 911 Carreras, theirs for a year, and team champions Redline Racing a Porsche Cayenne.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux full of new features in 2018
On the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux front the 2017 season was enthralling, with hard fought titles claimed by Xavier Maassen (DVB Racing) and Glenn Van Parijs (Belgium Racing) following the double final held at Barcelona- Cataluña that will forever remain in the annals. The cherry on the cake of a year that confirmed the permanent increase in power of the fastest one-make cup in the Benelux?
On Friday November 10th, drivers, teams, partners and journalists were welcomed at Kasteel De Hoogenweerth in Maastricht, Netherlands. The beautiful castle was surrounded by coulorful Porsches and a stylish interior welcomed everybody to crown the champions of 2017. Xavier Maassen and Glenn Van Parijs were shining on their top spot of the podium as well as the other attentands who seemed to have a good time. On stage, the hosts talked with pride about the new feautures, thanked everybody who made past season possible and showed the best action videos and pictures.
?Over a mere five years we have managed to give credibility to sprint races in the Benelux, Steven Stichelbout, Series Manager explained. Congratulations to the champions, thanks to all the drivers and teams who helped to write the history of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux, and now setting course for 2018. Our competition will continue to grow, and its features are ever more numerous ? ?
The first of these features will undoubtedly be the introduction of the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup GEN II in the Challenge Benelux. Enough to guarantee an even bigger starting grid, with as from the 2018 kick-off a mix of GEN I and GEN II. Each one will therefore have the opportunity to choose according to their pretentions and ambitions.
A guarantee of sumptuous grids during the 2017 season, the association with the Porsche Carrera Cup France is renewed. Similar to this year, the French and Benelux competitors will be joining forces over several meetings, which will as a pleasant consequence once again produce an increased level of competition?and impressive grids!
Quite clearly the 2018 calendar is looking tempting, with such circuits as Spa, Zandvoort and Zolder, but also - the newly introduced to the F1 calendar- Circuit Paul Ricard to end the season in the company of the Porsche Carrera Cup France.
Launched at the beginning of the 2017 season, the Porsche Benelux Junior Programme had favoured a handful of young lions who under Marc Goossens, their coach, all made indisputable progress. ?The Goose?: ?The aim was to train these Juniors in such a way as to be able to bring ever more precise feed-back after each run at the wheel of the car. I?m looking forward to what is to come ? ?
In the meantime, the Junior Benelux 2017 has been elected. It is the young 19 year-old Turk Ayhancan Güven, he put in a thundering appearance in our competition. Through his title of Junior Benelux 2017, he will receive some support from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux during the 2018 season. We definitely have not heard the last of him?

GT3 Cup Challenge Champion Eidson Wins Keys to New 911
Hurley Haywood scholarship winner and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Champion Jake Eidson earned yet another valuable trophy in the process - the keys to a brand-new Porsche 911, his to use for the next year.
Appropriately equipped for a GT3 Cup Challenge Champion, Porsche outfitted the stunning black 911 with a 7-speed manual transmission to transfer power to the ground from the 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged boxer engine that produces 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. And if Eidson is late for an appointment, those six cylinders will propel him to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds, while the Champion is wrapped in a leather interior listening to the tones of the optional Bose Surround Sound system and Sport Exhaust.
Eidson first got a glimpse of the car at the championship banquet at Motul Petit Le Mans.
"They basically handed me the keys and said, 'Go have fun!'" Eidson said.
The 22-year-old driver had already clinched the Overall and Platinum Cup Championships at the series' previous event at Sonoma Raceway in the No. 24 Kelly-Moss Road and Race entry.
"At Sonoma, we knew that we could tie up the championship, but I had to win both races there and pole position," Eidson said. "It was probably the closest qualifying session I've ever had. I qualified on pole by one-hundredth of a second. There's six to seven drivers on any given weekend who could win the pole and the race so it's a lot of tough competition in this series."
However, the young driver said a major career moment happened before his 2017 season even started when he got the call that he had won the inaugural Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship, backed by IMSA, Yokohama, Porsche and Haywood himself.
"Winning that scholarship was a bit of added pressure because a lot of people really want to see you do well," Eidson said. "Trying to meet those expectations and standards was difficult at times, but I think if nothing else, it was more motivation.
"The amount of support I've received this year is overwhelming, I can't thank everyone enough. First of all, I have to thank my team - Kelly-Moss Road and Race - I think they're the best team at what they do. They've been a huge contributor with [owner and competition director] Jeff Stone and he's been an enormous amount of help and support for me. He's done a really good job of making us feel like we are part of the Kelly-Moss family - and it's truly more of a family than a team."
